Sun Life Financial Inc. says it is giving the equivalent of $43,500 in U.S. dollars to the Canadian Red Cross to help with Philippine landslide relief and reconstruction efforts.
“We are saddened by the tragedy in the village of Guinsaugon, and financial support is urgently needed to facilitate the recovery from the landslide,” Donald Stewart, chief executive of Sun Life Financial, Toronto, says in a statement about the donation.
Officials estimate 1,800 people may have died as a result of the disaster.
