An arm of WellPoint Inc. is trying to sell health insurance to Lone Star State consumers who may not understand why they need health insurance.

UniCare Life & Health Insurance Company, Chicago, a division of WellPoint, Indianapolis, has started selling the Sound family of health plans to Texas adults ages 19 to 29.

Consumers can apply for Sound coverage through the Web at Document Link

Underwriters will approve qualifying applicants within minutes, and successful applicants can print out what UniCare is calling the “flashy, colorful Sound identification card” using their own color printers.

Coverage takes effect immediately, and it includes some dental and vision benefits.

Premiums start at $68 per month.

UniCare says it also has introduced 6 plans for Texas individuals and families, with deductibles ranging from $500 to $5,000.

New Texas products also include 3 Pathways plans aimed at small groups. The Pathways plans provide first-dollar coverage for accidental injuries and unlimited office visits with in-network providers, UniCare says.
