A big multiline insurer has unveiled its succession plans.

Assurant Inc., New York, says Robert Pollock, 51, the company’s president, will take the additional title of chief executive officer when J. Kerry Clayton, 60, retires March 17.

Pollock also will join the Assurant board.

Clayton will continue to serve on the Assurant board from March 17 until the end of 2006, Assurant says.

Clayton, who has spent 35 years at Assurant and companies that now are part of Assurant, has been the CEO since 2000.

Pollock began working for Assurant and Assurant’s predecessor companies in 1981. He has been president of Assurant Employee Benefits, Kansas City, Mo., and he has been president of the parent company since June 2005.
