A unit of WellChoice Inc. is trying to speed up use of electronic patient records.[@@]

Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, the arm of WellChoice, New York, that holds the Blue Cross and Blue Shield licenses for the New York area, says it will be giving plan members the ability to share Web-based personal health records with physicians in the Empire provider network.

Empire started a Web-based My Health Record service in June. About 30,000 Empire members have logged on and used the system to create personal health records, the company says.
