Colonial Supplemental Insurance is offering easy underwriting on individual short-term disability products for some midsize employers between now and Dec. 31.[@@]

Colonial Supplement, Columbia, S.C., a unit of UnumProvident Corp., Chattanooga, Tenn., says private employers with 50 to 500 employees in some industries, such as advertising and banking, can have Colonial offer individual STD coverage to their employees without any participation requirements.

Employees at eligible employers need not answer any specific health questions, Colonial says.

The program will provide guaranteed issue coverage up to 50% of each eligible employee’s income.

The policy can pay up to $3,000 a month in disability coverage, Colonial says.

Colonial notes that pre-existing condition language in the contracts still apply and that the contracts may include other limits and exclusions.

Colonial notes that one rider, a health screening rider, pays for employees who are not on claim to receive certain important health screening tests.
