GE Insurance Solutions has named Torben Thomsen leader of its new, London-based life and health division for Continental Europe.[@@]

GE Insurance, a unit of General Electric Company, Fairfield, Conn., reinsures life insurance, health insurance, disability insurance, long term care insurance and critical illness insurance.

GE Insurance formed its new Continental life and health division by combining the division that handled life and health operations in South, West and Northern Europe with the division that has handled Central and Eastern Europe.

Thomsen previously led the South, West and Northern Europe life and health division, which was based in London.

Wolf-Rudiger Heilmann, former leader of the Central and Eastern Europe division, has left GE Insurance to pursue other opportunities, according to GE Insurance.

Thomsen, the head of the combined operation, has a degree in mathematics and economics from the University of Aarhus and a degree in actuarial science from the University of Copenhagen.

The combined operation will have offices in Athens, Copenhagen, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris and Tel Aviv as well as in London.
