The Standard Insurance Company unit of StanCorp Financial Group Inc. has introduced The Protector Plus individual disability insurance product.[@@]

The new product uses the same definitions for rehabilitation and for presumptive, total and residual disability for all occupation classes, according to Standard, Portland, Ore.

Customers who buy the product, which is part of Standard’s Protector Series, can choose between a base policy which imposes no special limits on mental disorder and substance abuse coverage or own-occupation coverage which includes those limitations.

Other product options include a catastrophic disability benefit rider, which provides extra income for insureds who have trouble performing 2 or more activities of daily living, and a choice between a 3% or 6% cost-of-living increase rider.
