Grand Central Partnership Inc. honored the Aflac Duck today at a ceremony recognizing the duck for being one of America's favorite advertising icons.[@@]

The Aflac Duck beat out 24 other popular advertising icons, including Ronald McDonald, in 2004 in a Web-based vote sponsored by Grand Central Partnership, New York.

Grand Central Partnership, a civic group that promotes Midtown Manhattan, now is completing the award process by presenting the Aflac Duck with an engraved plaque on the Madison Avenue Walk of Fame, according to Aflac Inc., Columbus, Ga.

The Kaplan Thaler Group, New York, created the Aflac Duck for Aflac in 1999. At the time, Aflac was best known for selling cancer insurance in Japan. Now more than 90% of Americans recognize the Aflac name, Aflac says.
