Benu Inc. has developed a health insurance program that will give midsize employers the ability to offer workers a choice of plans.[@@]

Benu, San Mateo, Calif., is working with CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, and Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, Calif., to offer Mid-Atlantic employers with at least 75 employees a product with a menu that includes a point-of-service plan option and a health maintenance organization option as well as preferred provider organization option.

The product will be available to employers in Washington, Maryland and Virginia, Benu says.

Benu says it is using a special risk-adjustment mechanism to protect participating carriers against the risk that the sicker workers will prefer certain plans over others and.

Benu is selling its new product through local and regional health insurance brokers.
