Tough new federal bankruptcy laws are scaring members of work-life assistance programs.[@@]

The number of program member calls that deal with bankruptcy was 29% higher in this August than it was in August 2004, according to ComPsych Corp., Chicago, a company that develops employee assistance plans and work-life programs.

President Bush signed the new Bankruptcy Abuse Protection and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 into law in April.
