R. Glenn Hilliard says he will be giving up day-to-day involvement in the operations of Conseco Inc.[@@]

Hilliard, 62, the former chairman of ING Americas, a unit of ING Groep N.V., Amsterdam, took over as executive chairman of Conseco, Carmel, Ind., in August 2004, as it was recovering from financial problems caused by an unsuccessful expansion into the consumer finance industry.

Hilliard was supposed to advise William Kirsch, Conseco’s new chief executive officer.

Hilliard says that his appointment to serve as an executive chairman was scheduled to last only 1 year and that he now wants to go back to being a non-executive chairman.
