Conseco Reports Lower Sales But Higher Profits

Conseco Inc. squeezed more profits out of the business it managed to keep and acquire during the second quarter.[@@]

Conseco, Carmel, Ind., is reporting $88 million in net income for the latest quarter on $1.1 billion in revenue, up from $68 million in net income on $1 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2004.

Net income rose even though sales of supplemental health insurance and life insurance fell.

The company’s long term care insurance sales fell to $88 million, from $92 million.
