CIGNA Offers Dental Customers Materials Choices

CIGNA Dental is introducing an insured group dental program that will give employers a new way to cut costs.[@@]

Employers on tight budgets that use the program, the CIGNA Dental Care Value Plans program, can impose requirements on the kinds of crowns and bridges that the dental plan will cover. A plan can offer coverage only for the “less costly, professionally accepted, necessary and appropriate method of treatment.” If members of those plans want more expensive crown materials or other “alternative treatment options,” the members will have to pay for the difference in cost out of their own pockets, according to CIGNA Dental, Plantation, Fla.

An employer also can buy a dental plan that insures preventive care and ordinary restorative care but provides only a discount card for employees who need dental specialty care.

CIGNA Dental is a unit of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia.
