The American Diabetes Association is opposing H.R. 525, a federal bill that would create association health plans. [@@]

H.R. 525, a bill coming up for a vote in the U.S. House today, would create a system of multistate health plans that would be exempt from state health insurance benefits mandates.

The American Diabetes Association, Alexandria, Va., says AHPs could cause millions of U.S. residents with diabetes to lose their health coverage.

State laws or regulations in 46 states require health insurers to provide coverage for diabetes supplies, medication, equipment and education, according to the American Diabetes Association.
