John Hancock Life Insurance Company has recognized Margaret Bradshaw by making a large contribution to The American College in her honor.[@@]

The American College, a financial services college, has responded by naming an academic office on its Bryn Mawr, Pa., campus after Bradshaw.

Bradshaw, 100, earned the Chartered Life Underwriter professional designation from the college in 1931. She went on to teach CLU courses and to work as a salesperson for Hancock, which is now a unit of Manulife Financial Corp., Toronto, at a time when few women worked in insurance sales, according to The American College.

The college named a sundial in a campus garden after Bradshaw in 2004.
