Pfizer Inc. is sponsoring a series of panel discussions on health care led by former Sen. John Breaux.[@@]

Breaux, a Democrat from Louisiana, says he wants the discussions to stimulate talks between Republican and Democratic policymakers that can lead to meaningful improvements in the U.S. health care system.

A center affiliated with American University is presenting the discussion series.

Breaux kicked off the series today with a discussion about H.R. 1812, The Patient Navigator Outreach and Chronic Disease Prevention Act of 2005. The bill, sponsored by Reps. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., and Deborah Pryce, R-Ohio, would provide patients with advocates to help them use the health care system.

Pfizer, New York, is a large pharmaceutical company.
