Assurant Inc. has picked Robert Pollock to become the company’s president and chief operating officer.[@@]

Pollock has been the chief financial officer of Assurant, New York, which sells health insurance, employee benefits and a variety of property-casualty insurance products.

Pollock will be getting the president’s title from J. Kerry Clayton, who will be keeping the chief executive officer title.

Pollock has been working for Assurant since 1974. Before he became CFO of Assurant, he was president of the company’s employee benefits unit.

Pollock has a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and holds the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries professional designation.

In related news, Assurant says it is splitting its Assurant Solutions property-casualty unit into a consumer protection division and a specialty property division.

Assurant also has promoted P. Bruce Camacho to chief financial officer and Jerome Atkinson to chief compliance officer.

Camacho, who has been president of an Assurant property-casualty unit, Assurant Solutions, started out at a company later acquired by Assurant in 1990, as vice president of information systems. He has a degree from Prior Park College in the United Kingdom and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida State University. He is a member of the board of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, Des Plaines, Ill.

Atkinson, the new general counsel, has been the general counsel and chief compliance officer at the Assurant Solutions unit. He began working for a predecessor company as a staff attorney in 1988.

Early in his career, Atkinson served as a staff attorney and later as a deputy general counsel in the Ford White House.

Atkinson has a bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a law degree from the University of Michigan. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter professional designation.
