Fort Dearborn Life Insurance Company has released a menu of products designed for companies with 2 to 9 employees.[@@]

The new Focus on Small Business portfolio includes life insurance, short-term disability insurance and long-term disability insurance products, according to Fort Dearborn, Chicago.

Fort Dearborn, a unit of Health Care Service Corp., Chicago, the parent company of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, has tried to hold administrative costs for the micro-group products down by using a Web-based price quotation system and adopting simple plan designs.

Although the design is simple, employers can choose elimination periods, benefit periods and maximum coverage amounts. Employers also can choose whether to pay for the benefits themselves or have employees pay for the coverage.
