UICI has introduced a new family of small group health plans that incorporate personal health accounts.[@@]

UICI, North Richland Hills, Texas, says it has received regulatory permission to sell the plans, which are designed for businesses with 2 to 50 employees, in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Tennessee and Texas.

UICI will be building the new plans around plan designs developed by HealthMarket Inc., Norwalk, Conn., a “consumer-driven” health plan pioneer that UICI acquired in 2004.

UICI will be writing the health coverage used in the plans through its MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company subsidiary.

The plans will offer Web-based provider price comparison tools along with accounts that can pay for up to $1,250 in preventive care. Plan members can roll up to $500 in account funds over each year, UICI says.
