A Virginia Beach, Va., managed care company is complaining about the Illinois Medicaid budget process.[@@]

The carrier, AmeriGroup Corp., says Illinois lawmakers have published a fiscal year 2006 budget that could lead to $70 million in cuts in Medicaid managed care spending.

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has not yet signed the 2006 budget. If he does, the Illinois Department of Public Aid may have to negotiate new contracts with Medicaid managed care vendors, AmeriGroup says.

AmeriGroup says it is not sure how it will respond if the budget cuts go through. AmeriGroup runs a managed care plan that enrolls 38,000 of the 170,000 Illinois managed care program participants.
