Principal Financial Group Inc. has started a voluntary disease management program for health plan members who suffer from severe migraine headaches.[@@]

The Des Moines, Iowa, insurer’s new migraine care program will use nurse counselors to help participants try to find ways to reduce the frequency and severity of their headaches.

Principal will use emergency room visit records, inpatient hospital admission records and other records to determine which members are most a risk for filing migraine-related claims, then offer those members a chance to call an 800 number to learn more about the migraine care program.
