Aetna Inc., Hartford, has reversed a policy against reimbursing for computer-aided detection (CAD) for breast cancer.[@@]

Aetna’s decision was announced by iCAD Inc., Nashua, N.H., which provides CAD mammography services and procedures.

“Aetna considers computer-aided detection a medically necessary adjunct to mammography,” Aetna said in announcing its decision.

Aetna had been the only major health care insurer that did not reimburse for the procedure, iCAD says.
