The Foreign Ministry of Japan has picked Gregory Boyko to serve a 5-year term as an honorary consul general of Japan.[@@]

Boyko, executive vice president of international operations at Hartford Life, a unit of Hartford Financial Group Inc., Hartford, will be responsible for protecting Japanese nationals, promoting Japanese commerce and promoting cultural exchange in Connecticut.

In addition to serving as a Hartford Life executive in Connecticut, Boyko is chairman of Hartford Life’s international arm, and he helped Hartford set up Hartford Life Insurance K.K., the company’s unit in Japan.

Boyko has traveled to Japan more than 50 times and is studying Japanese with help from a private tutor, according to Hartford Life.
