MetLife Inc. is trying to help the American Cancer Society persuade Americans to take better care of themselves.[@@]

MetLife, New York, is backing the Atlanta-based society’s Great American Health Check, which starts May 1.

The heart of the program will be a Web site that will help visitors find out which cancer screening tests they ought to have.

Researchers have found that fewer than 50% of U.S. adults follow the cancer screening schedule that the American Cancer Society recommends. MetLife says it is supporting the health check campaign to improve consumers’ health and to reduce the financial effects of cancer on patients and employers.
