A Birmingham, Ala., company has picked a 13-year veteran to lead a major business unit.[@@]

The company, Protective Life Corp., says Doug Adam is the new president of West Coast Life Insurance Company, San Francisco. Protective acquired West Coast Life in 1997.

Adams has been president of another Protective subsidiary, Empire General Life Assurance Corp., and he will continue in that role, Protective says.
