An executive from a Columbus, Ohio, insurer is joining a council that keeps federal officials up to date about trends in the employee benefits market.[@@]

The executive, Richard Landsberg, is a benefits lawyer and vice president at Nationwide Financial Services Inc. He will represent the insurance industry on the U.S. Department of Labor’s Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans, according to the Labor Department.

The council, better known as the ERISA Advisory Council, helps Labor Department officials administer the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974.

Labor Secretary Elaine Chao has appointed a total of 5 new council members to 3-year council terms.

One of the other new appointees, James McCool, is president of Schwab Corporate Services, a unit of Charles Schwab Corp., San Francisco. McCool will be representing employers on the ERISA council.
