A Simsbury, Conn., insurer is organizing a contest to promote college savings accounts.[@@]

The insurer, Hartford Life, a unit of Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., is sponsoring the “Taste of Madness” contest together with Kraft Foods Inc., Northfield, Ill.

The contest, which will be tied to the National Collegiate Athletic Association “March Madness” basketball tournament, will last 31 days and award $10,000 in college scholarship money each to 31 contest participants.

Hartford Life and Kraft are using the contest to promote Hartford Life’s SMART529 college savings plan program and advertising it with displays at more than 30,000 grocery stores and other stores. The company also is putting party planning guides featuring Kraft recipes and Hartford Life college savings tips in the same 30,000 stores.
