The asset-management unit of a Hartford insurer has retained a consulting firm.[@@]

The money manager, Phoenix Investment Partners Ltd., has hired Callan Associates Inc., San Francisco, to handle tasks such as searching for sub-advisors, analyzing the competition, monitoring investment strategies, and providing strategic advice.

Phoenix Investment is a unit of The Phoenix Companies Inc. that is managing about $43 billion in assets for individuals and outside institutions.
