Roger Brooks, chairman and chief executive officer of AmerUs Group Company, says he plans to retire at the end of the year.[@@]

The Des Moines, Iowa, insurer says Brooks is implementing a succession process that began in 2003.

Thomas Godlasky, now president and chief operating officer of AmerUs, will continue to be president and become chairman and chief executive when Brooks retires, AmerUs says.

Brooks, 67, began working for AmerUs in 1959 and became president of the company in 1972.
