Fields To Lead UniCare

WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis, has picked an internal candidate to head one of its major health insurance units.[@@]

The company has promoted David Fields to be president of UniCare, Chicago, a national health insurance subsidiary that provides or administers health coverage for 1.6 million U.S. residents.

Fields previously was a general manager in the consumer services division at another WellPoint unit, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, Atlanta. Fields was responsible for individual insurance, small group coverage and products for older consumers.

Fields started out working as an auditor. He began working for Georgia Blue as a regional vice president in 1997.

Fields has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Louisville. He holds the Certified Public Accountant professional designation.
