A new Minneapolis benefits insurer has hired 3 executives.[@@]

The insurer, KMG America Corp. has recruited Tom Sass to be senior vice president of underwriting/risk management, and it has brought in Paul Moore and Paul Kraemer to be senior vice presidents of sales.

KMG recently completed a $143 million deal to acquire Kanawha Insurance Company, Lancaster, S.C., a company that sells group benefits and voluntary benefits programs to employers in the southeastern United States.

KMG was founded by Kenneth Kuk, a life insurance industry veteran who spent years as a senior executive at ReliaStar Financial Corp., Minneapolis. Kuk wants to use Kanawha as the basis for creating a national group and worksite insurance company.

Sass, the new underwriting executive, has been a senior manager in the health care and risk management division at Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, Minneapolis, a unit of Allianz A.G., Munich.

Moore, an Irvine, Calif., resident, has been a regional sales manager for a U.S. unit of ING Groep N.V., Amsterdam.

Kraemer has been a regional vice president in an ING employee benefits division office in Boston.
