The Hawkeye State is getting a new insurance commissioner.[@@]

Susan Voss will be succeeding Terri Vaughan as head of the Iowa Insurance Division.

Voss is a lawyer who has been serving as the division’s first deputy commissioner. Previously, she was the commissioner’s projects director. She also has been a policy analyst in the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance.

Voss will be taking over from Vaughan Dec. 31.

Vaughan, who has served as Iowa’s commissioner for 10 years, announced in November that she would be resigning to become an insurance professor at Drake University.

Vaughan may be best known outside Iowa for serving as the president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Kansas City, Mo., in 2002. Vaughan helped lead NAIC efforts to bring more uniformity to the life product review process.
