The unit, Tillinghast, has named Prakash Shimpi practice leader for enterprise risk management.

Shimpi, who will be based in New York, will start by focusing on life and property-casualty risk management, and he also will handle other forms of corporate risk management, Tillinghast says.

Shimpi worked for the U.S. arm of Swiss Reinsurance Company, Zurich, from 1995 to 2003. When he left, he was president of the company’s Swiss Re Financial Services Corp. unit.

Shimpi is the editor and principal author of “Integrating Corporate Risk Management,” a book about the convergence of insurance and the capital markets, and he has been a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, the London School of Economics and the University of Peking.

Shimpi has a bachelor’s degree in economics and statistics and a master’s degree in operational research from the London School of Economics. He also has a master’s degree in business from the University of Chicago.
