AFLAC Promotes Kan And Paul Amos II

AFLAC Inc, Columbus, Ga., has promoted Akitoshi Kan, who has executive vice president of international operations, to chairman of its AFLAC International unit.

The company also has named Paul Amos II executive vice president, AFLAC U.S. operations.

AFLAC is promoting Kan to give the head of its important AFLAC Japan unit, Charles Lake, more time to focus on regulatory and strategic issues in Japan, AFLAC says.

Kan began working in AFLAC’s financial department in 1980, and in 1999 he was executive vice president of internal operations for AFLAC Japan. He has a bachelor’s degree from Kanagawa University in Japan.

Paul Amos II is the son of AFLAC’s chairman, Daniel Amos, and the grandson of longtime chairman Paul Amos. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Duke University and a master’s degree in business from Emory University. He also has a law degree from Tulane University. He began working for AFLAC in 2002 as state sales coordinator for AFLAC’s Georgia North region.
