Independence Holding Company, Stamford, Conn., has formed a new division to write special high-deductible small-group health insurance plans.[@@]

The company is offering the major medical, short-term medical and limited medical plans through its subsidiaries, Madison National Life Insurance Company Inc. and Standard Security Life Insurance Company of New York.

IHC expects to begin marketing the high-deductible, consumer-driven health plans to small employers in certain states in the fourth quarter and to roll out the short-term limited medical plan in the first quarter of next year.

The company also announced that it has appointed Jim Kenneally as vice president of strategic health initiatives for Madison National Life, where he will be responsible for marketing and developing the new products.

It also promoted Mark Musser to vice president for business development at IHC in addition to his existing duties as Madison National’s chief marketing officer.
