The National Underwriter Company, a unit of Highline Media L.L.C., announced today that it has acquired Insur’Ed Inc., a nationwide insurance training organization.[@@]

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Insur’Ed specializes in life-health and property-casualty pre-licensing, continuing education, sales and product training for banks, insurance companies and brokerage firms.

The National Underwriter Company, based in Erlanger, Ky., is the nation’s leading insurance publishing, information services, and training content provider for the insurance industry.

Highline Media was formed in October 2003 by Spire Capital Partners L.P. and Andrew L. Goodenough, its president and chief executive officer.

Highline’s intent is to use NUCO as a base from which to build a multi-market, multi-product publishing, training and information services business, including a combination of magazine, data, newsletter, conference, trade show, advanced-level training materials, and Web site content delivered in print, electronic, and live event form.

Bart Shachnow, the founder and president of Insur’Ed, will be joining National Underwriter as executive director, reporting to Jim Keefe, vice president and managing director of the Professional Publishing Division.

“The Insur’Ed acquisition furthers our reach into the continuing education market and provides a platform for growth in the pre-licensing market,” Keefe says. “We are absolutely delighted to have Bart and the Insur’Ed team join us. The company and its people are an excellent compliment to our core strength.”

Shachnow says, “As a customer of National Underwriter products, training materials and publications for over 15 years, I believe NUCO’s products, services, and resources are uniquely suited to enhancing the skill sets, expertise, and productivity of our ultimate end users in the financial industry.

“I look forward to working with NUCO to develop its pre-licensing, training and continuing education businesses.” Shachnow also will be responsible for growing NUCO’s corporate relationships.

Shachnow is the author of several insurance textbooks, including the Plain Language Guides to life and health insurance pre-licensing preparation, also acquired by NUCO.

The Insur’Ed staff will be relocating to NUCO’s Hoboken offices in October.
