The federal government is distributing a guide to individual disability insurance.[@@]

The Federal Citizens Information Center has added the guide, “Long-Term Disability Income Insurance: Protection For Your Future,” to its fall consumer information catalogue.

The American Council of Life Insurers, Washington, developed the disability insurance guide together with the Consumer Federation of America, Washington.

The guide gives a general explanation of the individual disability insurance product, discusses the cost of the insurance and offers a checklist for consumers who are shopping for coverage, according to the ACLI.

The FCIC, an arm of the U.S. General Services Administration, sends about 2.5 million copies of its catalogues to libraries, schools, consumer groups, congressional offices and frequently visited federal offices.

The FCIS also has posted an electronic version of the guide at http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov
