The company, Imerica Financial Corp., is putting together a national distribution team made up of master general agents and partner general agents, according to the company’s fact sheet.

Bain Capital Ventures, Boston, is backing the company. Michael Ashker, the founder and president, and 2 of the other top officers are members of the team that started Healthaxis Inc., Irving, Texas, a health insurance sales technology company.

Imerica announced today that it has hired Thomas Keller to be chief insurance officer. Keller has served as president of Fortis Health, Milwaukee, a company that is now part of Assurant Inc., New York. Keller will oversee Imerica Life’s actuarial, underwriting, risk management and medical delivery operations, Imerica says.

Keller has a bachelor’s degree in physics from Yale University. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Schaumburg, Ill., and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, Washington.
