MetLife Inc., New York, is celebrating its 50th anniversary as administrator of the Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance Program.[@@]

The program, which covers the lives of 4 million federal employees, U.S. Postal Service employees, retirees and family members, is the largest group life program in the world, MetLife says.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management will be celebrating the 50th anniversary by making September an “open season” month. Eligible employees can buy new life coverage or increase coverage limits without answering medical questions.
