A key federal panel will be meeting in Washington to talk about retirement savings, benefit plan fees and benefit plan tax forms.[@@]

The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans and at least 3 of its working groups will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 22 in the U.S. Department of Labor Building.

The council helps EBSA and EBSA’s parent, the Labor Department, administer the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

The full council will discuss plans for an upcoming National Summit on Retirement Savings, and one of the working groups will talk about ways to improve retirement plan disclosures and help plan participants manage their savings more wisely.

A second working group will try to determine whether employers really understand the plan administration fees they are reporting in their Form 5500 plan tax filings.

A third working group will review the value of health and welfare plan Form 5500 tax reporting requirements.

EBSA has posted a link to more information about the meeting in the Federal Register, at http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fedreg/a040831c.html
