Trustmark Mutual Holding Company, Lake Forest, Ill., wants to split the roles of chairman and chief executive officer.[@@]

J. Grover Thomas Jr. will continue to be chairman, but he plans to hand the CEO title to David McDonough, the company’s president and chief operating officer, in March 2005, Trustmark says.

McDonough began working for Trustmark in 2002. He previously was chief operating officer of Assurant Health, Milwaukee, a unit of Assurant Inc., New York.

Trustmark sells life, medical insurance and disability insurance as well as benefits administration services. It has $1.8 billion in assets.
