American Community Mutual Insurance Company, Livonia, Mich., has introduced a health insurance plan for individuals and families that is compatible with the new health savings account program.[@@]

The new Community MED HSA plan is based on a preferred provider network. Purchasers can choose between an 80% reimbursement rate and a 100% reimbursement rate for in-network care.

Dental care and coverage for routine maternity care are optional, but American Community has built in an accident benefit that waives the health plan deductible for care received within the first 30 days of each occurrence of a covered injury.

The HSA plan is about 35% to 50% cheaper than comparable low-deductible coverage, American Community says.

American Community hopes to introduce a group HSA plan later in the summer.
