A coalition of 4 dozen organizations will be paying for health coverage for up to 350,000 uninsured children in Los Angeles County, California.[@@]

The new Children’s Health Initiative of Greater Los Angeles is raising $112 million to pay the premiums for government-sponsored children’s health coverage.

The first $112 million should last for 3 years, and coalition organizers say they want to find a long-term mechanism for ensuring that all children in Los Angeles County will have health coverage.

Coalition organizers note that government programs offer subsidized coverage for California families with annual incomes of as much as $56,000 for a family of 4.

Children in Los Angeles County could be eligible for coalition assistance even if their parents are working and have steady incomes, coalition organizers say.
