The Associated Press is reporting that Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry might make Kathleen Sebelius his running mate.[@@]

The Associated Press has based the report on unnamed sources and says Rep. Richard Gephardt, D-Mo., and Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, another Democrat, are also contenders.

Kathleen Sebelius, a Democrat who is now the governor of Kansas, served as the Kansas insurance commissioner from 1994 to 2002. She may be best known outside of Kansas for blocking efforts by Anthem Inc., Indianapolis, to acquire Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, Topeka, Kan. She was elected president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Kansas City, Mo., in 2001.
