Insurance agents also are fighting the battle, according to Gus Comiskey, president of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting and David Woods, CEO of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

Along with ACLI, AALU and NAIFA have successfully opposed this type of legislation in several states and will be working proactively in states where the legislation may be considered in the future, Comiskey and Woods say in a joint statement.

Comiskey and Woods say the issue could arise in a Senate Finance Committee hearing on charitable matters that is scheduled for June 22. If it does arise, they say, AALU and NAIFA will likely submit comments for the record.
