NU Online News Service, June 2, 2004, 12:22 p.m. EDT – John Hancock Financial Services Inc., Boston, will sponsor a mock political party convention for fifth-graders Friday.[@@]

Hancock, now a unit of Manulife Financial Corp., Toronto, organized the Convention 101 For Kids program to teach Boston’s fifth-graders about the American presidential election process.

The program will give 150 students from 50 classrooms a chance to gather at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum to hear from Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and other luminaries, Hancock says.

Boston will be hosting the Democratic National Convention this summer. Hancock has sponsored another Convention 101 For Kids program for fifth-graders in New York, which will be hosting the Republican National Convention.
