NU Online News Service, May 11, 2004, 9:10 a.m. EDT – Maryland insurance regulators have announced an investigation into certain discount card programs that claim to offer discounts on health care, dental or pharmaceutical costs.[@@]

“I want to hear from the public about whether these sorts of plans are legitimate and whether they deliver on what they promise,” says Maryland Insurance Commissioner Alfred W. Redmer Jr.

Redmer says he is concerned that some advertised discount cards are really scams pretending to offer health-related insurance.

The state Insurance Administration will hold a hearing on such discount arrangements May 27 at Essex Community College in Baltimore.
