NU Online News Service, April 16, 2004, 5:03 p.m. EDT – Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., has hired Madhu Chugh to manage health care policy for his presidential campaign.[@@]

Chugh has worked as deputy communications director for Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and as policy director for former New Hampshire Gov. Jeanne Shaheen’s 2002 Senate campaign. She also has served as a health policy fellow in the office of Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Chugh grew up in Longview, Texas, and majored in journalism and government at the University of Texas. While working for Vilsack, she helped pass legislation that invested Iowa’s share of the tobacco settlement in health care, according to a short biography posted on the Web site of The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans, New York.
