NU Online News Service, April 12, 2004, 4:55 p.m. EDT – AIG American General, Houston, has introduced a critical illness insurance policy.[@@]

AIG American General is aiming the product at both the individual and worksite markets.

Built-in product features include free membership in a discount health care provider network and a special benefit for insureds who suffer from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

An optional benefit extension rider will pay extra benefits to insureds who receive a diagnosis for a second or third critical illness. The rider also will pay a benefit on the second diagnosis of the same critical illness, such as cancer, if the occurrences are separated by a 2-year treatment-free period.

AIG American General is issuing the policy through American General Life Insurance Company.

AIG American General is a unit of American International Group Inc., New York.
