ABD Hires Marsh Benefits Executive

NU Online News Service, March 30, 2004, 10:47 a.m. EST – ABD Insurance and Financial Services, Redwood City, Calif., has hired a top Marsh Inc. benefits executive.[@@]

ABD, the insurance brokerage and benefits consulting arm of Greater Bay Bancorp, Palo Alto, Calif., has named James McCabe executive vice president, employee benefits.

McCabe previously worked for Marsh, a unit of Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc., New York, as the managing director for the firm’s Northern California benefits operation. He ran the Sacramento, San Francisco and San Jose benefits offices.

ABD also has given 2 executives, Debora Karstetter and Dan Francis, new titles.

Karstetter, who was executive vice president, employee benefits, will be executive vice president, corporate development. She will be responsible for working with Greater Bay to promote cross-selling of banking and insurance services.

Karstetter is vice chair of the Council of Employee Benefits Executives, Washington. She was president of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists, Brookfield, Wis., in 2000 and now serves on the society’s strategic planning committee.

Francis, formerly president of ABD’s property-casualty operations, will become ABD’s chief operating officer. He will be responsible for ABD’s overall business strategy, the company says.
